I want you to think for a moment about how many paper receipts are thrown in the bin behind the shop counter each and every day.

So! Here I was thinking that the receipts are printed automatically and there’s nothing we can do about it when, whilst in a mini supermarket today, the woman behind the counter actually asked whether or not I wanted a receipt. When I asked her about it she said that If the sale was cash, she could program the printer NOT to print a receipt. This is contrary to what I’ve been told lately. 

What’s actually going on here? I intend to get to the bottom of this.
